Our take
I picked up the Numark Mixtrack as an entry-level controller. The 9 synth keys are responsive, and the USB connectivity made setup a breeze. Having a pedal input is a nice bonus. That said, it's very basic—no jog wheels, no built-in sound card, and limited controls. It works for learning the basics but you'll quickly outgrow it. At $120, it's affordable but you're getting what you pay for.
